4 Simple Routines That Keep Our Home (and My Sanity) Calm
Before I Liked Routines… I Needed Them
I used to hate routines. They felt like something only Type A people did — planners, color-coders, people who always knew where their keys were.
But somewhere between homeschool, medications, work, and life in general, I realized I didn’t need routines to be perfect. I just needed them to help me breathe.
These are the few simple daily routines that actually keep our home — and my brain — calm most days.

1. Laundry at Night
When my boys go to bed, I finally sit down. Folding laundry with my show on feels like a reward, not a chore.
It’s quiet. I don’t have to rush.
And it makes the next morning so much smoother.
Then I have time for my Bible study! If you want to study with me, we’re working through Genesis now! Read here!
Sometimes structure doesn’t have to look like discipline — it can look like peace.
2. Meds at the Same Time (Every Time)
I used to forget constantly — and the guilt that came with that was exhausting.
Now I tie our medication times to things that always happen: getting Johnny ready for school in the morning, and when I put the baby in the bath at night.
It’s not about perfection; it’s about rhythm. These little anchors help me show up consistently for the people who depend on me — and for myself.
3. Morning Reset for School
Homeschool mornings can explode fast.
Before we start lessons, I do one tiny “reset”: clear one table, get a snack ready, and put music on.
It doesn’t make the day perfect, but it sets the tone.
A little order in the room helps everyone — including me — focus better.
4. One Thing Before Bed
I don’t do a full cleaning routine at night. I just pick one thing that helps “morning me.”
Sometimes that means clearing the counter, sometimes laying out clothes, or starting the coffee pot.
It’s five minutes that buys me a calmer start tomorrow.
Why These Routines Matter
I’m not naturally structured. I never will be.
But these few simple daily routines remind me who I am and what matters most in the middle of all the noise.
They don’t make life perfect — just a little calmer.
And honestly, that’s enough for now. 🍃
